Libra Tampons decides who is a real woman and who isn't >:|
This is an ad for Libra Tampons. I don't think I need to say how transphobic and cissexist and disgusting it is since once you watch it'll be obvious -_-
I'm just... ugh... it aggravates me to a pretty big degree >:| Ugh ugh ugh...
And trans women aren't the only ones dismissed by this ad, because trans men and FAAB genderqueer and agender people pretty much have their identities erased too... >:\ Plus there are plenty of cis women who can't have periods. Remember, if you can't have a period you're not a woman, and if you can, you must be >:| If you forget, Libra Tampons will remind you!
Ugh ugh ugh >:O

There is apparently an online petition. I dunno how much good it'll do, but please sign it anyways. :)

Weirdly and sadly ironic that a tampon company acts like complete douches.
ReplyDeleteUgh, that's a horrible advert. Offensive on so many levels. Obviously really offensive to transgender people - and also, just plain silly: really, what sort of woman uses their period as a badge of honour?
ReplyDeleteSix months ago I switched to a progesterone-only Pill of a kind that means I don't have periods at all. Since they were nothing but a painful and inconvenient nuisance to me, I'm delighted. Not sure how not needing to carry tampons makes me less of a woman.
This really is deeply depressing. I mean, what next? Bra ads that hilariously give women with breasts the upper hand over women who've had mastectomies? Ads depicting women with babies as vastly more feminine than those who can't conceive?
Wow, that's incredibly offensive. And of course on top of setting up the idea of trans women as Not Real Women, the commercial falls back on the old standby of fixating on a trans woman putting on heavy makeup so that in case we were't sure, it can remind us that she's superficial/deceptive/fake/etc. Disgusting.
ReplyDeleteOh, we already know you have to have babies to be a real woman. At least in the church I'm recovering from. :P
ReplyDeleteWhat the flying fuck?
ReplyDeleteThat's horrible.
God, that's awful. Makes me want to change my birth sign, just to scoot away from them. What the hell, Libra?
